Your dog really is your best friend, which is why you will need to think carefully about the dog collar you choose. There is a huge variety of collars for different dogs and different purposes. Collars are no longer strictly utilitarian straps around the neck, they have become the pet accessory of greatest importance and a statement of personality. Fashion dog collars make a statement and many fashionable dog owners want their pets to match their own high fashion look. If low fashion, or no fashion is more your style, there are collars to suit your tastes as well.

Before making a purchase, it is always best look carefully at all the dog collar supplies and the product information so you know exactly what to expect. Your choice needs to be one that is comfortable for both you and your dog.

Your choice of collar will obviously start with your dog. Your dog's breed, and size and type of coat will determine which types of collars will be appropriate. If the collar is going to be purely decorative, then style and color will be the prime considerations. Smaller dogs can look good in brighter colors, while larger dogs usually look best in darker colors.

Another important consideration when choosing a dog collar and dog collar supplies is your dog's temperament. Docile dogs may be fine with a decorative collar where strength will not be a factor. For dog obedience training, you will need a chain collar. Chain collars need to be chosen very carefully for size and length. A dog on a chain collar must never be left unattended. The safest dog collars are those with quick-release mechanisms, which allow the dog to break free in life threatening situations.

If your dog loves getting wet and you take him to the beach or in a pool, you'll want to have a nylon collar to use at those times. Leather and cloth collars usually don't do well in water and you certainly don't want to get a high priced designer collar soaking wet.

How well the collar fits your dog is always the most important consideration. The collar should be long enough that you can easily slip two fingers between the collar and the dog's neck. After checking the fit manually, you should also watch the dog closely for a while to make sure he is not showing signs of discomfort or stress. If the collar is too lose, the dog will easily slip it off, so check to make sure the collar won't slip off over his head.

There has never been a time when dog owners had more choices when to comes to dog collar supplies. I say experiment and have fun! Just use a little common sense and you and your dog will have a great time looking good and feeling good in the perfect collar and leash!

I have ideas... asked:

Is there a formula of sorts? Our dog was in for a dental cleaning a week ago and the pre-anesthetic blood panel showed a slightly elevated BUN level and a high creatinine (2.5). The vet asked if he was showing signs of kidney failure (excessive water intake, lack of appetitie, lethargic, accidents in the house). He's shown none of these signs. He actually doesn't seem to drink enough. Urine test showed bacteria-so he's currently on an antibiotic, but the bacteria culture came back "no growth" - so she said it must not have been a significant infection. He also had low urine concentration. He goes back at the end of this week for another urine test. Since then we bought bottled water-thinking our softened well water might not be good for stressed kidneys. I've been measuring and he only drinks about 2.5 cups of water a day, even though he has an endless supply. That doesn't seem like enough. He's 95 pounds, 8 years old, Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Will ask the vet this week of course.

Men's Jewlery Rings
